Tarot and Oracle ~ What's the Difference?

This week, we are answering a question from one of our readers.
TAROT and ORACLE CARDS ~ What's the difference?
Both tarot and oracle decks can be used for divination, insight, and guidance. The difference between tarot and oracle begins with structure of the deck.
♦Tarot decks are based in tradition established long ago. Most decks contain 78 cards including 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana cards of four suits with numbered cards from Ace to Ten, Page, Knight, Queen, and King.
♥The Major Arcana cards represent major life events or lessons.

♥The four suits of the Minor Arcana represent four elements with associated meanings.
•Cups= Water = Emotion, Intuition, Love, Relationships;
•Wands= Fire = Passion, Action, Creativity, Career;
•Swords = Air = Beliefs, Thoughts, Clarity, Decisions;
•Pentacles/Coins = Earth = Health, Wealth, Physical Needs, Material Reality
Tarot spreads can be done for simple yes/no questions as well as provide incredibly clear detail into your past, present, and future.
Note: Tarot decks may differ slightly; however the structure of tarot remain largely the same.
♦Oracle decks are much less structured than tarot. There are typically 44 cards in a common oracle deck, but the number of cards can range anywhere between 36 and 64 cards depending on the deck.
♥Oracle cards do not follow the same rules as tarot decks. Each oracle deck is unique and will have its own meanings.

♥While there may a theme present in a particular set, many are stand-alone cards that can be used for daily guidance by pulling just one.
♦Both tarot and oracle decks can be used to create full readings. Oracle cards may be easier to learn initially, as many have keywords and meanings printed right on the card.
♦Though it takes more time to become proficient in tarot reading, learning a traditional deck like Tarot Waite will allow you to interpret almost other tarot cards.
♦You can also mix it up ~ use an oracle card to clarify a tarot reading or a tarot card to complement an oracle reading.
The most important part of choosing a tarot or oracle deck is to find one that resonates with you. Once you begin working with tarot and oracle cards, have fun learning and trust your intuition to guide you.
